Lasix is the brand name of a Sanofi-Aventis marketed drug that is generically called furosemide. Furosemide, sold by prescription as Lasix in drugstores or as Lasix online, is prescribed by doctors to increase urine output in patients who have medical conditions that cause the body to retain excess water and salt. Because effects of Lasix may be rapid and quite powerful, patients who are prescribed the drug are required to be carefully monitored by physicians.

Conditional Uses for Lasix

Generic Lasix is used to relieve fluid retention caused by several different types of medical conditions. Lasix is frequently paired with other pills in the salt and water elimination treatment of hypertension or high blood pressure and edema related to congestive heart failure. Lasix is used to treat patients suffering from cirrhosis, chronic kidney failure and a separate kidney disorder called nephrotic syndrome.

Lasix and Lasix Online Preparations

Prescription furosemide is available in tablet, oral fluid and injectable forms, purchased through local pharmacies or by ordering through the Internet as Lasix online. Lasix and generic Lasix come in pill form in 20, 40 and 80 milligram tablets. Oral solutions and injectable doses contain 10 milligrams per milliliter. A typical tablet dosage for an adult suffering from edema is 20-to-80 milligrams every 6 to 8 hours or twice daily. Lasix doses above six milligrams on a daily basis are not recommended.

Lasix and Lasix Online Side Effects and Drug Interactions

Taking aspirin, diet pills and cold supplements are not recommended for use with generic Lasix. The FDA Administration recently called for relabeling Lasix and Lasix online to warn patients about possible hearing damage and adverse effects when generic Lasix is used in combination with NSAIDs and ACE inhibitors. Other adverse reactions have been found in patients already prescribed lithium medicines or the gastrointestinal drug Carafate.

To prevent drug interactions, it is important for patients to disclose to their doctors all prescription and non-prescription medications already being taken, including over-the-counter medicines. Since the effects of Lasix use on unborn children are not well-known, Lasix is not recommended for pregnant women or for those who are breastfeeding. Patients who already have kidney or liver disease, lupus, diabetes, sulfa drugs allergies or gout may not be good Lasix candidates.

Lasix Complications

The function of generic Lasix is to remove excess water and salt which causes more frequent urination. With the extra fluid loss, dehydration and the loss of too much salt or potassium are possible. Patients are advised to carefully follow all doctor's instructions concerning generic Lasix dosages, including accompanying liquid intake.

Symptoms of generic Lasix overdose are often a result of taking a higher than recommended dosage or taking a prescription longer than suggested by a physician. Signs of generic Lasix overdose that require immediate medical attention include feeling faint, allergic reactions, ringing in the ears, lightheadedness, dizzy spells, confusion and appetite loss.
